SESSIONAL STAFF

GTAC offers post- graduate students in cell and molecular biology and related fields the opportunity to work as “scientist mentors” with school students and teachers at the laboratory bench in various GTAC programs.

GTAC workshops are highly structured to facilitate participation and dialogue. Scientist mentors work with small groups of five to seven students at the laboratory bench.

Scientist mentors need to be confident in their knowledge base about cell and molecular biology, have excellent communication skills and have a genuine interest in working with young people to enhance their learning. For school students, working with young research scientists is crucial in developing their understanding of the nature of the scientific enterprise and of possible careers in science. Scientist mentors are encouraged to talk to students about their own research work and their feelings “about science”.

To find out more about sessional work at GTAC, please contact the GTAC Director, describing your current work and details of your work experience and skill base. Close proximity to the GTAC facility is an advantage.
