SESSIONAL WORK

GTAC offers an opportunity for students undertaking the Science Honours Year or PhD in molecular biology and related fields, employment as demonstrators in workshops conducted by GTAC for teachers and secondary school students.

GTAC workshops are highly structured to facilitate participation and an exchange of information. Demonstrators work with small groups of usually five participants.

Demonstrators need to be confident in their knowledge base about DNA manipulation tools and techniques, have excellent communication skills and have a genuine interest in working with young people to enhance their learning. For school students, working with young research scientists is crucial in developing their understanding of the nature of the scientific enterprise and of possible careers in science. Demonstrators are encouraged to talk to students about their own research work and their feelings “about science”.

To find out more about sessional work at GTAC, please contact the GTAC Director, describing your current work and details of your work experience and skill base. Close proximity to the GTAC facility is an advantage.
