INTRODUCTION
The Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC) is specialist centre established by the Victorian Government to promote excellence and innovation in education. GTAC is located at the University High School and is supported by the Walter Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, the Department of Microbiology and Immunology of the University of Melbourne, the Department of Education and Training and the University High School.
VISION
To deliver world class specialist education programs in molecular and cell biology for Victoria that promotes excellence and innovation in learning, based on a model that brings together personnel and expertise from the education and scientific research communities
MISSION
GTAC will ensure the provision of high-quality education that:
Delivers programs in molecular and cell biology that enrich student learning, with particular reference to DNA science and applications in biotechnology.
Supports the work of teachers by developing resources and provides an opportunity for teachers to update their skills and knowledge about molecular and cell biology with particular reference to DNA science and applications in biotechnology.
Provides a positive learning environment that engages young people in science and about possible careers in science.
Promotes an awareness of DNA science in the wider community and encourages dialogue and informed debate about the ethical and social issues raised by applications in biotechnology.
