Biomedical Sciences Day – Special event
The School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Melbourne and GTAC present a very special full day program, for year 10 and 11 students with an interest in biomedical sciences, featuring the 'Under the Coverslip' - Biomedical Science meets Art competition.
Photograph specimens through various microscopes to reveal the striking colours and patterns that are brought to life in the spectacular universe that lurks under the microscope and within our bodies.
Meet University of Melbourne student representatives and learn about the six departments within the School of Biomedical Sciences as they discuss how each department has a role in exploring the body.
Work alongside young scientists as you use light, fluorescence or electron microscopes to capture images to enter into the 'Under the coverslip' – Biomedical Science meets Art competition.
Ask student representatives questions about their study pathways and University courses and discuss what it is like to be a student at the University of Melbourne.
Hear about ACCESS Melbourne - special entry and support program for rural students enrolling in University of Melbourne courses.
Enjoy a tour of the University of Melbourne, including the Harry Brookes Allen Museum of Anatomy and Pathology which has one of Australia's largest collections of real human tissue specimens and historical anatomical models.
Have lunch at Union House - bring your own or buy lunch at Union House.

This program is only open to Victorian rural schools and Victorian metropolitan government disadvantaged schools.

Government rural schools can receive travel reimbursement up to $50 per student.
