Pump up the volume – Teaching resource

Education design team: Tony Chiovitti, Claudia Freyer, Frazer Thorpe, Duncan Goddard

Introduced as a problem of determining how an animal’s size is an adaptation to its environment, this resource encourages students to explore the relationships between length, width, height, surface area, and volume. Students use blocks to investigate how the dimensions of regular shapes can be used to estimate the volume and surface area of contoured irregular shapes, such as those of animals.
